After discovering this delightful 'Art Deco' style four star hotel on the internet, we decided a visit was simply a must to sample their afternoon tea, so we rang and booked a table.
The Earl of Doncaster is actually just outside of the town of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and is situated on a pleasant road that leads to Elmfield Park.
We turned off the main road and onto Roman Road, which leads you to the back of the Hotel and it's car parking area.
Outside, the Hotel echoes the Deco style, which carries on through to the interior of this delightful building.

No doubt about it, the Earl of Doncaster was designed to impress and it does not fail to do so! It is decorated in an opulent style throughout.
From the reception area, we were swiftly ushered through to the dining area and seated down. Our drinks order was taken as we studied the Afternoon Tea menu
The dining room is a delight to behold and you simply cannot but help continually look here and there, in fact everywhere you look, there is something else of beauty to look at. It is simply a visual delight!

The choices were as follows:-

Children’s Afternoon Tea
Classic Afternoon Tea

Our cake stand arrived with a selection of four different finger sandwiches, and one fruit scone (per person), one plain scone(per person), clotted cream, jam and a lovely selection of small cakes and desserts.
The teapot, sugar bowl, cups and saucers also echoed the Art Deco theme nicely.
We were rather over faced with some of the cakes, so the waitress said that she would put the remaining desserts into a dainty little cake box for us to take home.

All in all, this was an excellent afternoon, and the only thing I could fault, and it was only a tiny fault, was the choice of background music.
In surroundings like this, which is obviously 1920/1930's Deco style, one might expect music from that era, or some piano music or something more suitable and sympathetic to the overall surroundings, instead of just everyday pop music.
But that little fault to one side, the Earl of Doncaster Hotel is most definitely well worth a visit.
