To anyone who is interested in collecting vinatage fine bone china tea cups and saucers, cake plates, cake stands and things of that nature, you may not have considered the prospect that the very bargain you have just purchased from a local charity shop, is indeed an endangered species?
Lets think about it...
The item you have just purchased was made in the 1940's 50's etc., and that item is one of a finite amount of bone china items from an era whereby more cannot be made, unless we find a way to go back in time and make more, that is.

So what is my point?
Well, to put it simply, unless the bottom drops out of people collecting these items, which I cannot really see happening, your vintage fine bone china is only going to go one way, and that is that it becomes increasingly more expensive and scarce to collect?
Also, with the plethora of vintage tea rooms, and vintage tea set hire compaines using, and inevitably breaking items, it will become very sought after and a much more expensive.
There may well come a time when people want to start putting matching tea sets back together, too, so all those mismatched sets out there, that many people own, could become unfashionable.
It is only human nature to want something different and a matching set is different in a world of mismatched sets, as "fashion" dictates at this time.
And what about the trend of making cakes stands from cake plates, which involves drilling a hole straight through the middle? That cake plate will be forever lost as part of a collection of matching china?
All this of course, may not come to pass, but having said that, one thing that getting older is good for, is knowing what has happened with things in the past, and over time, seeing how much price escalates on things that were once two a penny items, many years ago.
Golly, the times I have heard Father say, "When I was a boy, this was only a few pounds, and look at the price now!"...
