The garden parties have been held at the Palace since the 1860's and have continued to grow in size over the decades into what we have today, which surely must rank as the biggest garden party of it's kind in the United Kingdom, hosting up to eight thousand people in one day.
Guests start to arrive from 2pm onward and the list of people attending ranges from serving members of the armed forces, to people who have contributed in some way, to their local communities.

Very quickly you soon find that the people attending are chatty, delightful and are overwhelmed. For most people, this is a once in a lifetime experience.

You will not find any alcohol at the garden party, which is a rather good move, I could imagine things getting very boisterous otherwise!
After the arrival of the Queen, tea, sandwiches, cakes/patisseries Strawberries & cream are served in the marquees.
But what can the guests expect to eat and drink?
Well, for a start there will be around 20 thousand sandwiches, 20 thousand slices of cake, and various patisseries and a whopping 27 thousand cups of tea!
There is a choice of around six different sandwich fillings and about nine different cakes, patisserie, deserts to choose from.
Top Tips: wear comfortable shoes and bring and umbrella. If it does rain there are plenty of marquees to shelter under.
